Coach Jimmy Ryan is a retired Bexley High School teacher with 40 years of coaching experience. While coaching Bishop Watterson boys' and girls' track teams, he won six league championships and one district championship. With Watterson cross country, he won 20 league championships, four district championships, and one regional championship. Two of his Watterson student athletes earned All-American status at the college level.
He served for 16 years as Bexley's baseball coach, winning three league titles, a district title, a regional title, and an appearance in the state final four. In 1999, the team finished with a final state poll ranking of second. One of Coach Ryan’s former baseball players currently plays major league baseball with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
As Bexley's golf coach, he led teams to three league championships and two sectional championships. His golf squads earned two state tournament third place finishes and, in 2015, the state title. Named District Coach of the Year in each of the sports that he has coached, he credits his exceptionally talented Bexley and Watterson athletes. Along with his wife, Coach Ryan is an avid golfer who has won the Club Championship at Westchester Golf Club two of the four times has competed.
