"My philosophy goes back to the old adage that was on the tennis courts when I played high school tennis at Bexley: 'Tennis is our serious fun.' I expect my players to come to practices and matches and to strive to become better tennis players and to be good human beings. I expect them to learn to work together and support one another as all teams should, and most importantly have fun!"
Shelby Cheses grew up in Bexley and is a graduate of Bexley High School. She played four years of varsity tennis at Bexley and won the State Doubles Championship in her senior year. Five years ago she re-launched, and now runs, the kids and adults programs at Bexley Parks and Recreation. She also runs the summer tennis program at the Columbus Jewish Community Center. In that time, she has had a state qualifying doubles team four times and a state singles qualifier one time, with a best finish 2009 of a state-runner-up doubles team.
