The Bexley Board of Education hosted a special board meeting to discuss potential firms and entities for the Superintendent search.

The board selected Educational Service Center of Central Ohio, K-12 Business Consulting, and Ray and Associates as the three finalists. These groups will make public presentations during a special board meeting on Thursday, February 11.
At its meeting on February 11, the Bexley Board of Education selected Ray and Associates to assist in the selection of a new superintendent for our district. The board was impressed with the firm’s commitment to community input, diversity, equity and inclusion, and efficiency, as well as their deep experience. Ray and Associates will gather information through focus groups and community surveys in order to understand our community’s priorities and develop a profile of desired qualities for our next leader. They will then use their local, state, and national connections to seek candidates. Stakeholders will have the opportunity to see and hear from finalists, and to provide feedback to the Board of Education before the board makes its selection.
February 25 and 26
Ray and Associates will be conducting focus group meetings by zoom on February 25 and 26. Some of the focus groups are for specific, targeted groups, and two of the meetings are for all stakeholders to which all are invited to participate. Information gained from the meetings will help to shape the desired profile of our next Superintendent. Each meeting will last approximately 45 minutes to an hour. A big thank you to all of the Bexley City Schools stakeholders and community members who participated in our search firm’s focus group meetings and responded to their survey! We had good participation, and Ray and Associates heard valuable input regarding the desired profile of our next superintendent. Ray and Associates provided the Board with recommendations on the characteristics that should be prioritized in the superintendent search, and at its March 2, 2021 meeting, the Board agreed on language to include in a flyer that describes those qualities. The flyer, which can be found here will be used to help generate interest as we move forward in our search process.
Currently, our search firm Ray and Associates is working to identify candidates who will be the best leaders for our district. By the end of April, we anticipate that the strongest candidates will be identified, and we will bring those candidates to Bexley for interviews.
As part of the interview process, we will plan forums for stakeholder groups, including a community forum where all community members will be able to watch the final candidates respond to questions. We expect to hold the community forum in a school building theatre, and to live stream or record it so that it is available to all who wish to watch. The Board will invite community participation both in suggesting questions to ask the final candidates and in providing feedback regarding the candidates. We will share a portal for submission of questions that will be collected and reviewed by Ray and Associates.
In the last two weeks of April, the Board will have the opportunity to consult with Ray and Associates as they work to bring us candidates who fit our identified priorities for our next superintendent. Finalist candidates will be invited to be interviewed on Tuesday, May 4. As part of that interview process, we are planning forums for stakeholder groups, including a community forum where all community members will be able to watch each of the final candidates respond to questions. We expect to hold the community forum in the Schottenstein Theatre, and to live-stream or record it so that it is available to everyone who wants to watch.
The Board invites community participation both in suggesting questions to be asked of the final candidates and in providing feedback regarding the candidates. The deadline to suggest a question is 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26. Suggested questions will be collected and reviewed by Ray and Associates. Each candidate will be asked the same questions during the community forum, and due to time limitations, some questions may be combined and it is possible that not all submitted questions will be asked. Community feedback regarding the finalist candidates will be collected by our consultants through a survey and provided to the Board. We are excited for this next phase of our search and will continue to provide updates as additional details become available.
The Board of Education has completed first-round interviews of candidates for Bexley Superintendent and is very pleased to have Dr. Keith Bell, Mr. Scot Prebles, and Dr. Jason Fine return to Bexley for further interviews on May 4.
We are grateful for the community’s participation in this process and look forward to a robust day of getting to know these exceptional professionals. Information regarding these candidates will be shared on our website shortly. We plan to post videos from these candidates early next week as well as details regarding a community forum starting at 6:30 p.m. on May 4.
Our search firm, Ray and Associates, will provide a survey to gather all stakeholder feedback. The survey will be posted on the district website on May 4 and will remain open until May 7, when the results will be given to the Board for their review to help determine the selection of our next superintendent.
The Board of Education is so grateful to all Bexley stakeholders - including students, parents, staff, and community members - for their engagement with Dr. Keith Bell, Mr. Scot Prebles, and Dr. Jason Fine – the candidates for superintendent who were with us in the district on May 4. It was a long and busy day for everyone! The Q and A sessions were very helpful not only to the Board in obtaining community and stakeholder input, but also to the candidates, each of whom learned so much about our district through the process. We are excited to be at this stage of our search with great candidates! The Board will meet with our search firm this week and anticipates we will be in the position to begin contract negotiations for our next superintendent shortly thereafter!
