Last week, we sent an email with guidance to help clarify and manage common COVID-19 scenarios that our families may be facing. That message can be viewed here.

Public health policies have evolved throughout the pandemic, and the current guidance may be updated again in the coming weeks as we learn more about effective approaches to control the spread of the omicron variant.

Any new guidance from Franklin County Public Health regarding COVID-19 policies will be communicated as quickly as possible.

February 21- No School- Presidents’ Day

Here is the third quarter lunch menu.

Occasionally this year we’ve had to make some substitutions to our menu based upon items that have not arrived within our weekly deliveries from our food supplier. We provide students with as much notice as possible in these instances.

The Winter MAP testing window runs from January 10-January 21. Students in First - Fifth grades will be taking the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment in reading and math during this two-week period.

MAP is a computerized assessment that adapts to each student by giving items that are more or less difficult based on how students answer previous items; so regardless of whether a student is above, on, or below grade level, MAP can help determine what a student is ready to learn.  And, since it is given multiple times in a year, it allows us to measure the growth a student shows from one testing session to another. This is our opportunity to check on student progress since the fall so our teachers can make sure to prepare lessons that will fill in any gaps, provide more intensive interventions to those who need them, keep students mastering on grade-level standards, and provide a necessary extension for those who are ready.  Results from MAP will be shared with families around conference time. Please be sure students bring their device charged and ready to use these days

Please see the attached fliers highlighting free parent workshops provided by Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Montrose is thrilled to announce the upcoming virtual author visit with Minh Lê on February 3rd.  He is the author of books such as LiftThe Perfect Seat, Let Me Finish!Drawn Together and the graphic novel Green Lantern Legacy.  His book Drawn Together, illustrated by Dan Santat, won the 2018-2019 Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature in the picture book category.  Minh's presentation allows for ample audience participation and is grade-level specific.  After talking about his work, process and life, he will spend time answering student questions. This gives the students an incredible opportunity  to engage with Minh and learn from him what they are most curious about. We are excited to provide our students the opportunity to interact and learn from a well-known author such as Minh.  A special thanks goes out to the Bexley Education Foundation which provided the funding for this event.

Happy New Year and Welcome Back! Over the next few weeks in Social Emotional Learning (SEL), your child will be learning about empathy and kindness.  Please click on your child's grade level to read about its overview, each weekly lesson, and how you can support your child at home. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me [email protected].

We're going to dive into some great books with an ocean-themed event this year, Montrose at Sea: Read-a-Thon 2022! The same easy online format will be back + featuring fun, new prizes and incentives for both money raised and minutes read for students and classrooms. Be on the lookout for more information after winter break and for hard-copy packets to come home in backpacks in advance of the Tues. Jan. 18 kickoff. Mark your calendars for marine exploration + literacy + fun competition and fundraising for our beloved elementary. Let's make some waves, Montrose!

Contact PTO Read-a-thon Committee Co-chairs, Kasey Alexander, Jenni Kristoff, or Rachel Laing, with any questions, if you have ideas or suggestions, or if you'd like to volunteer for this fun event.

Outdoor Recess and Lunch

Thanks for making sure kids had coats, hats and mittens last week as the weather turned colder. Even when it is chilly, we will plan on being outside as much as possible for recess and lunch.
