Dear parents and families,
This week has certainly been historic. On Thursday, March 12, Governor DeWine announced that he is closing all Ohio schools beginning at the end of the school day on Monday, March 16 for students. At this time, the governor’s office has directed that schools will remain closed through April 3.
Teachers and administrators prepared to implement distant learning on Friday, March 13. The district plans to begin distant learning on Monday, March 30. We will provide more details on distant learning, and how the district will provide technology to students who need it in the next Sunday e-newsletter.
We have created a COVID-19 Info page on our Bexley City School District’s website. It can be found at the top of our website. We will post district updates and resources here.
As we prepare for unchartered waters and new experiences, I want to emphasize the values we have agreed upon as a community: we demonstrate flexibility, we model responsibility, we care for ourselves (physically, socially, and emotionally), and most of all, WE HAVE HOPE!
During times like this, it is absolutely essential that we share moments of happiness, comic relief, and hope with each other. I met with our Montrose staff several times this week and each time, I reminded them about the need for us to be much more positive in our emails, texts, postings, and all of our communication. We are headed into distance learning and social distancing where we will have less human connection than we are used to so it will be even more important to send kind communication to each other. So add some happy emojis to your communication and share some extra encouragement with those you love . Let’s band together to keep positivity as our connector.
Sending many virtual hugs to each of you!
Yours in hope and positivity,
Principal at Montrose Elementary, Bexley City School District

The BRAVO! 2020 Committee, along with our BEF Board and Staff, was looking forward to celebrating the 20th anniversary of BRAVO! on Saturday, March 28. Unfortunately, as concerns have grown rapidly due to the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), with the closing of schools, and in light of Governor DeWine’s executive order prohibiting large group gatherings, and because postponement would be challenging during this time of so many unknowns, we are reformatting BRAVO! and presenting it as a virtual experience. Thankfully, we are well positioned to do so because we have been using an online platform for auction bidding for several years.
As you know, funds raised each year through BRAVO! support Bexley teachers directly with mini-grants, add more technology to classrooms, enhance learning environments, bring scholars, scientists, authors and artists in the schools, support District-Wide initiatives including the recent Bexley Be Well mental health and wellness initiative, and address needs or challenges wherever public dollars are not available.
BEF Staff and BRAVO! Committee members are working to create an engaging, fun and interactive BRAVO! experience. We are inviting our community to bid on hundreds of auction items including the unique works of art created by Bexley students, participate in an online “gift card grab” and more! If you’d like to participate in virtual BRAVO!, you can go online to www.befbravo.cbo.io to register as a bidder as online bidding opens on March 23 and will continue through March 30. Registering on the site will provide you with the opportunity to receive any BRAVO! related messages.
