Family Update
Montrose Families:

I would like to update you on the plan for our school and classes on Tuesday, May 6, which is Primary Election Day. Montrose Elementary is a designated polling place for the Franklin County Board of Elections, and voting will take place in our gymnasium.

We received notice from the Board of Elections on February 3 that Montrose Elementary was designated as a polling place for the May election. At that time, district leaders began planning safety measures needed to ensure our school day could proceed as scheduled. The district developed the following safety measures for our building:

  • First, Bexley Police will be requested to maintain visibility around our building throughout the school day.
  • Also, all 3 interior doors from the gym will be locked to prevent access to the rest of the building. If an evacuation is needed, the gym's doors can be opened from inside our school.
  •  Dr. Harley Williams, who is responsible for safety and security in the district, will work from our building that day to oversee voting operations and school activities. Other administrators will also be on site to assist with overseeing gymnasium activities and security. If necessary, they can intervene and/or call for police assistance immediately.
  • PE classes will take place in an alternate classroom.
  • We will run an indoor recess schedule.
Important Note about the Election
There is one issue on the ballot- State Issue 2 (public infrastructure) in Bexley. We do not expect a large number of voters in our building.

Future School Calendars
Next year’s approved school calendar calls for no classes for students and a professional development day for staff on both the November and May election days. The same is recommended for the 2026-2027 school year, but that calendar does not yet have Board approval. Please let me know if you have questions.

Sincerely,
Ms. Clayton

Social Emotional Learning Groups
Bexley Schools’ Nationwide Children's Hospital school-based clinicians are offering fun groups for elementary-aged students and upcoming 6th graders this summer to help support students’ social emotional learning and maintain self-regulation skills. The groups will meet at the Cassingham Complex.

They will offer two social emotional learning groups for grades 1-5. The first will focus on developing a coping skills toolbox and the second will work on strengthening students’ healthy communication and friendship skills.
They also will provide an Elementary to Middle School Transition group (for upcoming 6th graders).

Groups start June 4th, so sign up online ASAP!
Current Kindergarten Survey
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is collecting information to better understand student's pre-kindergarten experiences.   School districts are required to collect and report the following information: with respect to each student in kindergarten, whether the student previously participated in a public preschool program, a private preschool program, or a head start program, and the number of years the student participated in each of these programs. We appreciate your assistance in completing this short survey for your kindergarten student. This reporting is required by ORC §3301.0714(B)(3)(b).

Free Breakfast Continues
Bexley Schools continue to offer free breakfast for all students for the remainder of this school year. Encourage your students to start their school day with a nutritious breakfast!
Breakfast is served in each school cafeteria at the following times:
      Cassingham Complex: 7:45-8:35 a.m.
      Maryland Elementary: 7:45-8:10 a.m.
      Montrose Elementary: 7:45-8:10 a.m.
Don’t forget that in order for breakfast to be free, a student must select a whole breakfast consisting of one item from three of the four food groups: grains, fruits, vegetables, and milk. Food Services staff members can help students determine what to select for a free meal.
Students who select a single food item rather than a whole breakfast will need to pay for that item individually.
Online Safety Reporting
As a reminder, Bexley Schools utilize two online reporting tools through which students and/or families may report incidents of concern, including for safety, bullying, hazing, or harassment.
Stay Safe. Speak Up! is a reporting tool that is always at the top of the district website’s homepage. The reporting system is monitored 24/7 by a third party who promptly notifies Bexley Schools administrators when information is submitted.
The district also has an online Equity Issue Reporting tool through which concerns about discrimination may be reported. It also is located at the top of the district website homepage.
Students or family members also may talk to a teacher, coach, counselor, or school principal to report an incident.
Please remember, too, that anyone who witnesses an emergency or dangerous situation that is occurring should call 911 for an immediate police response.
Be assured that we are committed to the highest level of confidentiality about what we discover through any reported incidents and about to whom and what type of consequences are imposed, if any. This is to protect the privacy of all persons involved.
Remember, If you SEE something, please SAY something!
Beginning Band Camp
Is your student going to be an incoming 5th or 6th grader this summer? Is your student interested in music? If so, please consider a new band camp opportunity this summer that is absolutely free! This camp is perfect for those who are either already signed up for band next year and want enrichment, or who are unsure if band is right for them and would like to try out playing an instrument. Although the camp is free, students need to come with an instrument. To access an instrument, check out Music and Arts where a two month rental is $10 or Rettig Music, where rentals are $12 for three months. Those who need assistance will have options for school based instrument rentals. Please scan the QR code to register and reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
