Monday is a National Day of Service to commemorate the life of Civil Rights Leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Our students have participated in book studies, discussions, and experienced service projects in order to continue the legacy of leaving a positive impact on the community.
Second quarter report cards are now available. Please take time to review your child’s progress as this is a key tool our teachers use to communicate. To see the comments on a mobile device, you need to click on the dashes. On a computer, you should be able to click on the comment icon. Again, please take time to check your child’s report card and let your child’s teacher know if you have any questions. We will also have parent teacher conferences in February so that can be another great opportunity for conversation.
Sincerely,
Nyesha Clayton
IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES: January 17- No School MLK Jr. Day

LUNCH MENU Here is the third quarter lunch menu.
Occasionally this year we’ve had to make some substitutions to our menu based upon items that have not arrived within our weekly deliveries from our food supplier. We provide students with as much notice as possible in these instances.
MAP TESTING The Winter MAP testing window runs from January 10-January 21. Students in First - Fifth grades will be taking the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment in reading and math during this two-week period.
MAP is a computerized assessment that adapts to each student by giving items that are more or less difficult based on how students answer previous items; so regardless of whether a student is above, on, or below grade level, MAP can help determine what a student is ready to learn. And, since it is given multiple times in a year, it allows us to measure the growth a student shows from one testing session to another. This is our opportunity to check on student progress since the fall so our teachers can make sure to prepare lessons that will fill in any gaps, provide more intensive interventions to those who need them, keep students mastering on grade-level standards, and provide a necessary extension for those who are ready. Results from MAP will be shared with families around conference time. Please be sure students bring their device charged and ready to use these days.

VIRTUAL AUTHOR VISIT
Montrose is thrilled to announce the upcoming virtual author visit with Minh Lê on February 3rd. He is the author of books such as Lift, The Perfect Seat, Let Me Finish!, Drawn Together and the graphic novel Green Lantern Legacy. His book Drawn Together, illustrated by Dan Santat, won the 2018-2019 Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature in the picture book category. Minh's presentation allows for ample audience participation and is grade-level specific. After talking about his work, process and life, he will spend time answering student questions. This gives the students an incredible opportunity to engage with Minh and learn from him what they are most curious about. We are excited to provide our students the opportunity to interact and learn from a well-known author such as Minh. A special thanks goes out to the Bexley Education Foundation which provided the funding for this event.

Outdoor Recess and Lunch
Thanks for making sure kids had coats, hats and mittens last week as the weather turned colder. Even when it is chilly, we will plan on being outside as much as possible for recess and lunch.
