Dear families and students,

There is nothing quite like the first week of school!  This week was special at Montrose. We saw students arriving excitedly with their backpacks, reuniting with friends, being greeted by teachers and staff, and eagerly entering the building with wonders, hopes, and dreams!  Our school is a very special place. Continuously, I hear how wonderful Montrose is and after this week, I couldn’t agree more! Our community is one that truly cares for one another and encourages our students to develop as responsible and caring citizens.  This week, staff focused on getting to know students and helping them build strong relationships with each other. We created expectations together for what our learning environments look like, sound like, and feel like.

FAQs

• Question: What time can my student come for breakfast in the morning?

• Answer: Students are welcome to come to school to purchase breakfast anytime between 7:45-8:10 a.m.  We have staff ready to greet students and serve them breakfast.

• Question:  What time does the school day start this school year?

• Answer:  This year, all three elementary schools will open their doors to students at 8:10 a.m.  The tardy bell will ring at 8:15 a.m.

• Question: I really need to get to work in the morning but I want to make sure my kindergartner gets to the right classroom.  Could someone help?

• Answer: Any parent of a kindergartener or young student who would like a staff member to walk their child to class can meet at the front entrance of the building at 8:10 a.m. and we will be more than happy to walk them to class! Staff will have signs that display, "Mrs. Schlitter", "Mrs. White", and "Mrs. Young".

• Question: My child is little. They know their way to their classroom in the morning but I’m concerned that they can’t open the big doors inside of the school. What can you do to help them?

• Answer: Great question!  Some of our children are really little.  It is challenging at times to open the big doors however that is one thing that we practice at Montrose.  In addition, Mr. Strait (Safety Patrol Advisor) will have some Safety Patrol to help with holding our interior doors open to the various floors within our building.  Also Montrose staff will be at the interior doors to help hold doors open.

STAFF HIGHLIGHT

It certainly takes a village to raise our children, and goodness are we fortunate to have this community of wonderful people at Montrose Elementary!  This week’s staff highlight goes out to all of our caring staff who go out of their way to welcome our little ones each and every day with hugs, high-fives, fist bumps, and big smiles.  Thanks, Montrose Staff, for helping me get our building up and running! Our students and I are very grateful for you!

Warmly,

Melissa K-L
