The Bexley High School Torch is one of only two school newspapers statewide to be named an
“All-Ohio” publication, the top award from the Ohio Scholastic Media
Association, for the 2018-19 school year.In addition, 39 members of the staff won a total of 85
superior, excellent, and honorable mention awards for writing, photography,
artwork, graphics and design.
In the writing categories, superior awards went to
junior Maxine Giller for her news story on the tornado that struck the
Cassingham Complex, senior Chloe Wasserstrom for a news feature on students
traveling abroad over the summer, juniors Angelina Coles and Katie Haugh for
their alternative copy feature on the trends of the last two decades, senior
Kaia Woodford for a column on how consumers can influence the music industry,
and senior Noah Luehmann for his sports feature on E-sports.
In the visual categories, senior Nathan Toney won a
superior for infographic design. The news, opinion, and backpage editing teams
also all won superior awards in page design.
The Torch was led this year by co-editors Carolyn
Eliot, William Rauschenberg, and Theo Snowdon. The Torch is advised by English
and journalism teacher Julie Horger.
