PRESS RELEASE: Bexley Voters Pass Issue 6

Bexley, OH-- Bexley City Schools passed the operations levy, receiving 68 percent of the vote in the November 5, 2019 local election.

“On behalf of Bexley City Schools, I want to say thank you to our community, the Bexley Excellence Committee, and the Bexley staff and students for their efforts in passing this levy,” John Barno, President of the Bexley City Schools Board of Education said. “The continued support of our community will allow us to maintain the quality of education we have come to expect in Bexley.”

The funding from the operating levy will allow Bexley City Schools to continue its work to engage, equip, and empower each student for success by providing staff, supplies, and support to its growing student body. Approximately 80% of the district’s budget is dedicated to the salaries and benefits of the staff who deliver programs and services to Bexley students.

This was the district’s first levy request in nine years. Over the last few years, the district had to spend more of its reserves to address inflationary costs while seeing an 18 percent increase in student enrollment. Student enrollment is projected to continue to grow over the next 10 years. The levy is expected to last three years.

“Our community’s support on this levy is a commitment to the success of our students,” Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Pietsch Miller said. “We are so appreciative to all the volunteers and supporters who have made supporting the education of Bexley students a priority."

Collections will begin January 1, 2020.
