QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from an accredited university or college

2. Minimum of three years of teaching preferably at the level where you will be leading

3. Current Ohio certification/licensure in Elementary Administration. 

JOB GOAL:

To use leadership and administrative skills in promoting the maximum educational development of each student. To serve as the instructional leader in the respective building and to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the entire school building operation. To promote communication with students, personnel, and public relations within the community, as well as focus on curriculum implementation.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Instructional Leadership

    1. Adheres to the Board of Education policies, Employee Code of Ethics, and all other guidelines set forth by ODE and Bexley City Schools.

    2. Promotes the District's goal of striving toward equity and growth.

    3. The principal will set this expectation for students and all building staff.

    4. Will provide the support and reinforcement necessary for positive staff morale within the respective building.

    5. Make recommendations to the appropriate personnel based on needs identified by the respective program.

    6. Will regularly make the appropriate personnel aware of pertinent information related to the respective program.

    7. Will effectively interpret district positions and policies to subordinates to ensure their understanding and encourage their support.

  2. Staff Personnel

    1. Assist in acquiring and supervising and developing the building’s human resources so that the education and other programs of the building might be most effectively implemented.

    2. Assess staffing needs, cooperate with the Director of Employee Relations in recruiting and interviewing, and make recommendations concerning employment.

    3. Assign staff within the building to particular teaching or support positions.

    4. Supervise and direct the evaluation of individuals assigned to the building.

    5. Administer provisions of negotiated employee contracts relative to certificated and classified staff in the building.

  3. Curriculum and Instruction

    1. Maintain and improve the quality of the instructional program and school climate by being responsible for teacher implementation of the curriculum, through supervision of instruction, and through assisting in the development of the instructional program for the district.

    2. Provide leadership in establishing and implementing educational goals and objectives for the school and in evaluating the attainment of those goals and objectives.

    3. Direct the planning of building-level staff development activities and professional development for staff.

    4. Provide input in the district curriculum revision and textbook selection efforts.

    5. Plan and effect an organizational framework to bring together the school’s staff, students, facilities, and programs in an effective instructional program.

  4. Student

    1. Provide leadership and support for services that will support the physical and emotional safety, as well as the well-being of students, and provide for their individual needs.

    2. Participate as a district representative in student meetings that require a district representative.

    3. Establish and direct behavior management systems aligned with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) that are consistent with the Board of Education Student Rights and Responsibilities Policies as well as support Equity Policy.

    4. Cooperate with other district-level administrators in supporting programs, such as school counseling, special education, gifted education, and nursing services, that provide for the safety, emotional, and physical well-being and enhanced educational opportunities for students.

    5. Provide an opportunity for orientation for students new to the building.

    6. Compile, secure, and use student records in compliance with legal restraints and district policies.

  5. School/Community Relations

    1. Foster and maintain effective two-way communication between the community in a timely manner.

    2. Organize and meet with PTO and other such advisory groups.

    3. Direct the release of information about the school through newsletters, meetings, newspapers, parent/guardian groups, and other appropriate communication techniques.

    4. Present or supervise the presentation of reports to the Board of Education as directed by the Superintendent.

    5. Develop relationships with individuals and community groups that foster support for school goals, objectives, and programs.

  6. Resource Management

    1. Supervise the operation of the building, equipment, and business procedures in ways that enhance the overall facilities and operations of the building.

    2. Direct custodial staff to ensure the proper cleanliness and safety of the facilities.

    3. Assess the general condition and needs of the building and grounds and report them to the Director of Facilities and Operations.

    4. Prepare and implement a budget that will adequately support school programs.

    5. Prepare and submit federal, state, and local reports.

  7. Professional and Personal Development

    1. Develop and maintain professional and personal skills and knowledge needed to provide culturally proficient and effective leadership as a building principal.

    2. Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations.

    3. Visit programs in other schools and attend professional meetings and workshops to develop as a school leader, as approved by Superintendent.

    4. Read and implement (where appropriate) professional literature, learning, best practices, trends, and new developments.

    5. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

SALARY and RANGE:
Commensurate with education and experience.  Range starts at: $97,396.
