We hope you and your families enjoy the holiday in celebration of Dr. King tomorrow. We will see students on Tuesday morning!
Our 1st through 5th graders will be finishing up their winter MAP tests this week. This prompts us to let 3rd grade families know that reports from your child’s Ohio State Test in English Language Arts should be coming to our district during the last week of January. Discussing any questions you might have about these scores, MAP scores, or your child’s progress socially, academically or emotionally are all great reasons to reach out to your child’s teacher. Each of our schools have evening conferences coming up in early February.
The three of us have been pleased to see so many students enjoying free breakfast at school over the past two weeks. Wow! Our cafes have never been more bustling in the morning!

WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME
Winter months can mean we are inside more than outside and that illnesses can spread quickly through a classroom. We want to remind families of some signs to consider if you are wondering if your child is well enough to go to school. We know that a sick child is uncomfortable and unable to concentrate during the school day, additionally, sending an ill student to school puts other students and staff at risk.
Keep your child home if they..
-Have a temperature of 100.0 or above. They may return to school when free of fever for 24 hours, without medicine.
-Are vomiting or suffering from diarrhea needs to remain at home until symptom-free for 24 hours.
-Are taking antibiotics for less than 24 hours.
-Are complaining of headache, sore throat, cough, extreme fatigue, stomach ache, earache or an injury that is severe enough to decrease their ability to engage in class.
-Have yellow or green drainage from their eye/s.
-Have a rash of unknown cause.
If you have concerns that your child may have a communicable illness or may have been in contact with someone who is ill, please contact our clinic.

MAP ASSESSMENTS, GRADES 1-5
Student’s winter MAP assessments will finish up this week. We use the information MAP tests provide to inform the lessons teachers design and tailor instruction to student needs as a group and as individuals. Classroom teachers will share results from MAP with families by sending the scores home with your child. These may be a part of your child’s February conference conversations.
Please be sure students bring their device charged and ready to use everyday
and particularly for MAP days.

FREE BREAKFAST AT SCHOOL
If you’d like your child to have breakfast here at school, please note that in order for a breakfast to be free, they must select one item from three of the four different food groups: grains, fruits, vegetables, and milk. Students who select a single food item rather than a whole breakfast will need to pay for that item individually. Breakfast options vary day to day, but a variety of options are always available.
Breakfast Time
Breakfast will be served in each school building cafeteria at the following times:
Cassingham Elementary : 7:45-8:10 a.m.
Cassingham Elementary students are asked to eat first and not open computers/tablets until finished. We also ask them sit at the tables closest to the breakfast service room so that they can meet Mrs. Rudolph for the walk to class at 8:10.
Maryland Elementary: 7:45-8:10 a.m.
Montrose Elementary: 7:45-8:10 a.m.

Mark your calendar for Jan. 21 to learn about summer opportunities with the PAST Foundation’s Maker Mania Summer 2023 Student Program. Families can stop by the PAST Innovation Lab, between 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., to learn about its amazing summer STEM program. The PAST Innovation Lab is located near the Ohio State campus at 1003 Kinnear Road.
Programs that will be featured at the event include:
Middle School Minecraft Mathematics
Elementary Minecraft Mathematics
CAD & 3D Printing
Arduino
Middle School Coding
Elementary Coding.
Information on all of the PAST Innovation Lab’s summer programs also will be available, including outdoor programming, Esports, and video production.
