Dear parents and families,

We are sharing another common message across all three elementary schools. Neither your child’s teacher, nor us want your child’s school work to be a source of stress for your household. As we are all finding out, distance learning for elementary students can require quite a bit of parent participation. Please know that we recognize and appreciate ALL that you are doing to navigate your child's learning and support your family's evolving needs during this time. We are truly all in this together. #InThisTogether

When we begin the new school year, we will work with your child to ensure they are on track. We are educators and that’s our superpower, our passion! Right now, we need you to provide one another with grace, encouragement, and acceptance as these are important life skills. Thank you for doing your best to balance your family's needs and work in partnership with us.

Our teachers are continuing to provide our students with learning opportunities and social connection in a variety of ways. While we realize that elementary students may not be able to access their work daily, we do expect them to engage at a minimum level of twice per week. That can include emailing with their teachers, completing assignments, sharing their work with their teacher, and/or working with teachers and classmates via Zoom or Google meetings. Even though we are not physically in the school building at this time, we are still responsible for their education.

One of our primary goals in distance learning is to ensure that our students are socially and emotionally well and so it is our expectation that our teachers are hosting students in live conversations through Zoom or Google meetings at least two times per week. These live connections continue to build community, allow our teachers to check in with students to assess how they are doing, and additionally provide instruction or feedback to learning. If you have concerns that your child isn't participating in live meetings 2x a week, please reach out to your child's teacher or one of us. Thank you.

Our very best to you and your family,
Melissa Klosterman-Lando, Jeannine Hetzler, and Susan Drake

THE FUTURE OF SCHOOL IN A COVID WORLD

On Monday, April 20, Governor DeWine announced that schools would remain closed to students and distance learning would continue for the remainder of the school year.  While not a surprise to us, certainly a disappointment.  We miss our students, and we know that they miss being in school.  But we also know that we must listen to our leaders and do our part to continue the good work that has already taken place in Ohio.

So what now?  What is the plan to complete the current school year?  What is the plan for summer learning?  And what will it look like to reopen our schools in August, if we are able?
