May 23, 2021

Dear parents and families,

As we wind down the school year, we will keep as close to our normal routine and schedule but also celebrate how we have come together this year through tremendous challenges and soared - academically, socially, and emotionally. We are excited to create an opportunity for our Moose to have some FUN on a combination field day with several Fun For All games from 1:15-2:45 on the following days (see below).

The stations will be a combination of student favorite Fun for All Games with some team races and games coordinated by Mr. Strait. Water activities will not be a part of the Fun Day activities (except for 5th grade), so your child does not need to wear a bathing suit.  We will be outside that day for about 1.5 hours for the activities. Please place sunscreen on your child in the morning, dress them in light and breathable clothes, and send them to school with a filled water bottle. Thank you! It should be a lot of much-deserved FUN!!!

Related to a time of celebration is the news of mixed emotions, as we congratulate Mrs. Erin Bailey (2nd grade) and Mrs. Dina Williams (3rd grade) as they plan to retire from teaching at the end of this school year. These very special Montrose educators will be missed tremendously. They have been an integral part of Montrose for the past 34 years. In their message to staff, they shared that they have learned from some of the best teachers and staff, made lifelong friends, pushed their thinking, grown professionally, and encouraged, nurtured, and loved countless students throughout their tenure, even surviving a pandemic! They shared that they are walking out of Montrose with full hearts knowing our Montrose students are in wonderful hands. This truth is why they are so beloved and cherished. Congratulations to the two of them on their years of service and retirement!
Have a wonderful week and please see the important details below.  My best,Melissa Klosterman-Lando
Principal

STUDENT VERIFICATION POWER SCHOOL- Open Now
Parents can go into PowerSchool and update their information for next school year. This is incredibly important information for us to have and it definitely helps to have it updated as soon as possible.   Parents received an email on 5/19/21 notifying them that the returning student information verification process is open.

HEALTH PLEDGE REMINDER
Please take this time to review our Bexley Health Pledge below. If your child or anyone in the household has signs of illness that could be attributed to COVID-19, please keep everyone in your household home until the source of the illness can be confirmed by a physician or COVID-19 testing. During a pandemic, it is important to stay home with any signs of illness and contact the medical provider.

COVID REPORTING
Please continue to report COVID-19 cases among students and students experiencing symptoms in a timely fashion. Prompt COVID reporting contributes to our contact tracing & quarantine efforts and keeping our school community safe & healthy. You can report cases using our Confidential COVID-19 Reporting Form or by contacting your school nurse

QUARANTINE REMINDER
Please continue to notify our school if your child is quarantined. Your child’s school counselor will be in touch to support your child's access to learning. If exposed to a positive case of COVID-19, and the student/staff member doesn't develop COVID-19 symptoms during their quarantine, they can end their quarantine after 10 days. Close contact is considered within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes or more.

YEARBOOKS
Our yearbooks will arrive to Montrose during the summer months. We will disseminate them in August to students, and we'll make sure that our 5th graders (soon to be 6th graders) will get them. If you are moving this summer and withdrawing, please make sure we have your address so we can mail your yearbook to you. Please email [email protected] if you are moving. Thank you!

BEXLEY LIBRARY VISITS MONTROSE
The Bexley Public Library will be visiting different grade levels outside on the playground on Thursday to talk about their summer reading program and summer programming they have.

MONTROSE LIBRARY BOOKS

WITHDRAWING FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR?
We are working on class placement for next year. If your child(ren) will not be returning next school year (2021-2022), you must complete a withdrawal form. Please email Mrs. Anderson our school secretary at [email protected] for a form. Thank you!

SAFETY REMINDERS FOR RECESS
At Montrose, we are revisiting the kind of communities within our classrooms that we have developed inside the classroom and out at recess and lunch. Specifically, we are reminding our students:
- to keep a safe distance from each other especially if they are unmasked,
- to use their words to communicate,
- to listen to each other and respect each other
- to keep the fun in play and to play kindly,
- to be responsible leaders, and
- to talk through what they plan to play at recess - who, where, what are established rules, etc.
Mrs. Hipsley and Ms. K-L have drafted some helpful words to share with parents (and students). Please use the link below to help us support this conversation from home. Thank you for your help! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mlfrvyC7nIRhqyq95yyCZ6GLlAaGwm4Pejg7Y0pECJM/edit?usp=sharing

WATER BOTTLES
Our drinking fountains are currently not available at school; however, we do have water bottle filling stations that students should use to refill their water bottles. Please help our students (and our planet) by sending your child to school each day with a labeled water bottle. Thank you!

SUNSCREEN
As the weather warms, the sun strengthens. Please remember to put sunscreen on your child in the morning, especially on their cheeks, ears, and limbs.

On Thursday, June 3rd at 2:45 p.m., we will have a 5th Grade Clap Out outside at dismissal.
