November 1 Newsletter

November 1, 2020

Dear parents and families,

I hope that you are enjoying this beautiful but chilly gorgeous autumn weather! Spend some time outside taking in the sunshine and admiring the brilliant colors.

Just a friendly reminder that we do not have school tomorrow or Tuesday for students. On Tuesday, staff will be participating in a day of learning about anti-racism and joining  sessions from a panel of Bexley students, Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries, and Dr. Cynthia Tyson. We'll also be offering sessions on building resilience in ourselves and our students, trauma-informed care from Nationwide Children's Hospital staff, project based learning in various learning models, and mindfulness. We are grateful for this time together to better develop our skills as educators for our students.

On Tuesday, please remember to vote! Talk to your children about voting. Want to learn more about electoral college in a fun way? I highly recommend playing Win The White House through iCivics. It's a game designed to help kids learn to run their own presidential campaign. My kids and I love it!

Here are some photos from our week (creating patterns in music, designing steam tables, flashlight tag in P.E., selecting new books in library, learning to keep score in Pumpkin Bowling, "Wednesday" FUNdations, and dissecting owl pellets...oh my!)

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend! Please remember to stay safe, wear masks, stay safely distant, and mitigate as much as possible so we have continue to have a safe environment at school.

Warm regards,
Melissa K-L

BUNDLING UP
As the weather gets chillier, we want to remind you that we will still be going outside for lunch, recess, and outdoor learning as much as possible. Please make sure to dress your child in clothing appropriate for being outside for about an hour and muliple layers as well as boots or shoes suitable for grass with dew.

SAFETY PATROL UPDATE FROM MR. STRAIT, SAFETY PATROL DIRECTOR
Beginning Thursday, Nov 5th, Montrose Elementary Safety Patrol Team will be fully live with Safety Patrol members out at the crosswalks. This year I am proud to announce we have 58 students who are committed to aiding in the safe arrival and dismissal. Please be mindful and supportive of our patrols as a large portion of the team consists of 4th Grade students for whom this will be their first days on the job. For those families who have children on the Safety Patrol team, an easy way to stay connected is through our Montrose Elementary Facebook Group. This is a private group exclusively for family and staff members to receive updates on scheduling, events, and inclement weather procedures. To get connected, under Facebook Groups, search for Montrose Elementary Safety Patrol and request an invite to join!
