January 17, 2021 Dear families and parents, It was wonderful to have your children in school this week for FIVE days! We loved seeing them daily! Hooray! Thank you for supporting our school photos this week; it felt wonderful to be able to have this traditional experience return. If your child missed the day, our retakes will be February 26, 2021. We know it can be difficult to keep up with all of the schedule changes. Here is our schedule for second semester: 8:05/12:15 - Student arrival8:10/12:20 - We're down to business in class-attendance, school news program, and instruction begins8:10/12:20- Doors Locked As COVID numbers continue to rise in our community, we have some important reminders which will help us continue to work with your children daily through in-person, Hybrid instruction.
  • Please keep children home should they be identified as a close contact, present 2 or more Covid-related symptoms or if any family member is symptomatic.
  • We expect all community members, students and school employees to wear masks on our school grounds and in our buildings. Please keep this in mind at arrival and dismissal. Your diligence in mitigating COVID helps create a caring place and keeps our school community safe. It also models to our children how we respect district policies.
  • Additionally, please continue to report positive COVID-19 cases among students in a timely fashion. Prompt COVID reporting contributes to our contact tracing & quarantine efforts and keeping our school community safe & healthy. You can report cases by using our Confidential COVID-19 Reporting Form.
Finally, please remember that we do not have school Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We look forward to seeing your child on Tuesday, Jan. 19. Warmly,Melissa K-L
SCHOOL CALENDAR and LUNCH MENUWe are continuing with daily instruction using our Hybrid 2.0 model; students will attend school every day in either the morning or afternoon. If you have questions please contact your child’s teacher or our school office. For information about lunches, please visit this link: Food Services
PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATIONOur schools will not be watching our country's Presidential Inauguration live on Wednesday. This is true across our entire school district.  Teachers will share and discuss moments from the inauguration with students on Thursday as they teach about the transition of power and our government systems and structures which ensure that transition.
A NOTE FROM OUR SCHOOL COUNSELORSMany recent disturbing, confusing and frightening events in our nation, including the attempted insurrection of the Capitol are being replayed and discussed on television and in social media.  It’s difficult to make sense of the scenes for ourselves, and even more challenging to explain them to our children. Click on these tips from our school counselors to help frame your family discussions.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION FOR 2021-2022Kindergarten Enrollment information for 2021-2022 will be on the District's website in February.
TITLE I SURVEYWe are interested in your input regarding our literacy process and Title I services. Please click on the link below to provide us with some helpful feedback: https://forms.gle/jbQo32RjkmubeVV29
OUR WORK TOWARDS ANTI-RACISMWe continue our work in Bexley City Schools to create safe environments for all of our students and staff, and to better ourselves by unlearning, learning, and doing. Each Bexley staff and faculty member has been provided a copy of So, You Want To Talk About Race. Discussions of this text are being facilitated by our District Wide School Climate Committee members; these discussions have begun across our elementary schools and will continue for the next three months. Please check out our videos from recent Parent Institute presentations regarding microaggressions, understanding privilege, and implicit bias.
QUARANTINE REMINDERPlease continue to notify our school if your child is quarantined. Your child’s school counselor will be in touch to support your child's access to learning. If exposed to a positive case of COVID-19, and the student/staff member doesn't develop COVID-19 symptoms during their quarantine, they can end their quarantine after 10 days. Close contact is considered being within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes or more.
PETS and SCHOOL GROUNDSPlease remember to keep everyone safe,  that dogs and pets are not allowed on our school grounds, per our district guidance. Details are included in our elementary handbook
VALENTINE’S DAY PARTIES - FAQsOur PTO is just beginning to plan for Valentine’s Day but we’ve had some questions so here are some quick answers. Q: When will we be celebrating?A: Thursday, Feb. 11. (We do not have school on Friday, Feb. 12). Classroom parties will be 20-30 minutes in the a.m. and 20-30 minutes with 20 minutes being ideal. Q: Will my child be making a Valentine box/bag at school or at home?A: To preserve limited instructional time, we will ask that Valentine boxes or bags be prepared at home. Q: What is my child allowed to bring to the school celebration?A: Your child can bring a Valentine card for each classmate in his/her hybrid group and for our eLearning friends. Q: What is my child allowed and not allowed to bring to the classroom Valentine’s celebration?A: Allowed: paper card only - no trinkets with itA: NOT Allowed: Food, treats, drinks, pencils, trinkets, or anything sticky. Nothing slimy and no putty.  Q: How are we including eLearners?A: Parents of eLearning students can deliver a Valentines box/bag to school to collect Valentine cards from their peers. Room parents will likely provide a simple craft to classrooms (in-school) and connect with eLearning families who would like to participate. Our eLearners will get those ahead of time.    PTO will be organizing and more information will be coming from your room parents for both in-person learners and eLearners.

MASK UP, MONTROSEWhen you or others pick up your children at dismissal or bring them at arrival, it is imperative that you wear a mask. It also models to our children how we respect district policies.
