May 30, 2021

Dear parents and families,

It’s hard to believe that our school year is coming to a close this week. Our last day will be Thursday, June 3rd. Please see details below about events this week.

I will send out a newsletter next weekend with some reminders and resources and then Principals will pause on newsletters until late July/early August. Our district will continue to send weekly newsletters throughout the summer.

I want to say a special thank you to you, our parents, for trusting us and sharing your children with us this school year. It was certainly an unconventional year but we had lots of fun and enjoyed each step of our journey together finding health and happiness.

We have some huge celebrations to share with you. Our teachers and staff have seen tremendous growth with our students! Not only did we close academic learning gaps but we grew students above and beyond their anticipated academic growth (according to Spring M.A.P. scores). And our social-emotional data continues to share that students at Montrose feel a strong sense of belonging and feel confident in the ways that they know how to handle challenges and cope with obstacles. Wow, did they ever grow!! What immense success! We are so proud of them and all of their accomplishments! Celebrate your children this summer and dive into some wonderful stories and books with them.

My very best,
Melissa Klosterman-Lando
Principal

WITHDRAWING NEXT SCHOOL YEAR?
We are working on finalizing class placement for next year. If your child(ren) will not be returning next school year (2021-2022), you must complete a withdrawal form and return their devices. Please email Mrs. Anderson our school secretary at [email protected] for a form. Thank you!

SAFETY REMINDERS FOR RECESS AND OUTDOOR EVENTS
At Montrose, we are revisiting the kind of communities within our classrooms that we have developed inside the classroom and out at recess and lunch. Specifically, we are reminding our students:
- to keep a safe distance from each other especially if they are unmasked,
- to use their words to communicate,
- to listen to each other and respect each other
- to keep the fun in play and to play kindly,
- to be responsible leaders, and
- to talk through what they plan to play at recess - who, where, what are established rules, etc.
Mrs. Hipsley and Ms. K-L have drafted some helpful words to share with parents (and students). Please use the link below to help us support this conversation from home. Thank you for your help! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mlfrvyC7nIRhqyq95yyCZ6GLlAaGwm4Pejg7Y0pECJM/edit?usp=sharing

WATER BOTTLES
Our drinking fountains are currently not available at school; however, we do have water bottle filling stations that students should use to refill their water bottles. Please help our students (and our planet) by sending your child to school each day with a labeled water bottle. Thank you!

SUNSCREEN
As the weather warms, the sun strengthens. Please remember to put sunscreen on your child in the morning, especially on their cheeks, ears, and limbs.
