Relationships & Connections That Come From Reading Together
One of the great joys that I have experienced as a parent is reading with my children, especially in the dark and cold months of winter. When my son and daughter were young, I loved nothing more than snuggling with them under a blanket or in front of a fire to read books that took us to faraway places, made us laugh, or helped us to understand a hurt or problem that we were experiencing.

We know that reading together with our children is a great way to foster a love of learning, increase vocabulary, and model fluency. But perhaps even more importantly is the relationship and connection that comes from reading together.

As we get ready to embark on a two-week break from school, I hope that now will be a time for you read with your families. I know that life is so busy, and time to slow down is often difficult to find. But perhaps now is the perfect time to do some slowing down. Find a favorite book from your past or visit a bookstore or library to find a new treasure. But read. Snuggle up on the sofa and read together. I am confident that you will enjoy it!
