Lead Up to Sleep Out

Bexley High School students continue preparations for their third annual Sleep Out event. The sleepover is set for Friday – Saturday, April 7 – 8, 2017 near the Bexley Pool at Jeffrey Mansion Park.

A BHS club organizes and runs the Sleep Out to raise awareness about the issue of homelessness.  Proceeds from the sleepover benefit Ohio State's Star House serving homeless students. Club members volunteered for an afternoon in late February at Star House, founded in 2006 as Central Ohio's first drop in center for homeless youth.

The family-friendly Sleep Out event features a cookout, games and live music, according to club adviser and BHS social studies teacher Anna Schottenstein. Some participants spend the night outdoors, to simulate the experience of homelessness. Additional activities include a Tie Dye of the event’s long sleeve shirts; all-night movies on a big screen; a gaming tournament; and a raffle.

Sleep Out shirts, designed by student Camille Laret, are available for $15. Purchase of a shirt enters the buyer into a raffle and means the supporter can tie-dye the shirt at the April 7 event at Jeffrey Mansion.  Donations can be made through the club's Go fund Me site or checks can be made out to Homeless Youth Fund and sent to:
