March 21 Newsletter

March 21, 2021

Dear families and parents,

Happy Spring! I hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful week. I am so excited to see all of our students All-In on Tuesday! Our building is ready, and our teachers and staff are eager to welcome all of our Moose back to school. A special "thank you" this week to our custodians and maintenance staff who worked tirelessly with me to prepare our learning spaces with adequate distance. Our building looks great!

Parents and families, please see important details below, and I encourage you to read your child's classroom email specifically noting what supplies your child will need for All In a water bottle; Ziploc bag of indoor recess toys; and a yoga mat, towel, or sit upon for outdoor lunch.

I hope you enjoy the sunny weather that is upon us. Take care of yourselves, and have a great week!

My best,
Melissa K-L

LEARNING MODE 3.0 INFORMATION
We sent this communication last Wednesday but just in case you missed it, please be sure to read it carefully as there is lots of information about returning to school after spring break. Learning Mode 3.0 - All In for Montrose Elementary

Highlights:
What time is arrival?
Montrose’s doors will open at 8:10 a.m. and students need to be in classrooms by 8:15 a.m. Staff will be on duty at each entrance/exit. Classroom teachers will be waiting to greet students at their classroom doors and to facilitate wash in/wash out to best mitigate.

We will continue to enter through the doors we have been entering all school year.  This is to reduce crowding and to allow safer spacing.  Students who are late (arriving after 8:15 a.m.) will need to enter through the front door.

Front Main St. Entrance: Bailey and all 3rd Grade Classrooms
Remington Road Entrance: Schlitter, Francisco, and all 5th Grade Classrooms
Playground Entrance off of the Gym: McCarrick, Young, Friedstrom, and Kjellander
Montrose Ave Entrance: White, Reggie, and all 4th Grade Classrooms

What time is dismissal?
Students will be dismissed at 3:00 p.m.  Students will exit the building through the doors they entered in the morning. An announcement will be made at 2:55 p.m. for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders to be dismissed. Then another announcement at 3:00 p.m. for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.

What will recess look like?
Outdoor recess will look like it did this fall with students playing in zones to limit contact between grade levels. Students will need to wear masks and remain socially distanced. We will continue with our routine of recess first and then lunch. After outdoor recess, students will wash their hands in the building or use hand sanitizer (given by duty staff) before eating. Students are encouraged to pack their own sanitizing wipes and/or personal hand sanitizer inside of their lunch bags.

When we have indoor recess due to inclement weather, your child is encouraged to bring a labeled Ziploc bag in their backpack with their own small personal toys to play with while they are at indoor recess. Students will wash their hands in the classroom before going to the cafeteria for indoor lunch. Students are also encouraged to pack their own sanitizing wipes and/or personal hand sanitizer inside of their lunch bags.

What time is lunch?
All classes will have recess first and then lunch. Here is our recess and lunch schedule:
Kindergarten & 1st grade: 10:50 - 11:50 a.m.
2nd & 3rd grades: 11:20 a.m. - 12:20 p.m.
4th & 5th grades: 11:50 a.m. - 12:50 a.m.

What if I want to pick up my child for lunch?
Students are encouraged to go home for lunch when possible. If you plan for your child to come home for lunch, please notify the teacher ahead of time with written communication (email is preferable) and copy Mrs. Katie Anderson, our school secretary. This information should be given to teachers each day a child is leaving for lunch. If your child will be coming home every day for lunch and not just occasionally, then a written communication indicating that can be sent to the teacher and secretary.
School Secretary: [email protected]

Students leaving to go home will need to sign out of the office with Mrs. Anderson before leaving. If your child leaves for lunch, they will leave for the whole hour of recess and lunchtime, and return to school at the end of the hour. Upon return, they will come to Montrose’s front entrance (Main St.) and check into the office with Mrs. Anderson. She’ll make note that they are back from lunch at home, and then the student will be given a pass to head to class.

What will lunch look like at school?
Students staying at school will be eating outdoors whenever weather permits. It would be helpful for kids to have a beach towel, sit upon, or yoga mat. Each classroom will have a designated outdoor spot for lunch.

On days we must be inside, students will have lunch in the cafeteria 6 feet apart with dividers/partitions. Here are some pics of our set up so that students can eat safely while mitigating COVID as they take off their masks for lunch:

Clinic Update:
As students come back to school all day, every day please be sure to communicate with our clinic regarding your child’s medications. If prescription medications must be given at school an authorization form should be completed. Non-prescription medications require a signed form or parent consent by phone before medication can be administered.

OHIO STATE TESTS
Believe it or not, it is almost time for state testing. Please mark your calendars and do your best to avoid scheduling doctor’s appointments and days off on your child’s testing dates. We will begin testing on most days right at the beginning of the day, so having your child to school on time will be important.

MASKING OPTIONS
We are providing links to masks that meet the "CDC equivalent of double masking" requirement. BCSD does not endorse the seller of these products, however, we want to provide examples of approved masking options for the return to all-in.
The District will provide 3-ply facemasks to staff and students when they return from Spring Break (these masks are IN and delivered to Montrose so that we will have them all ready for students on the 23rd!). These masks have a Particle Filtration Efficiency (“PFE”) of 90%.

You may also provide your child with a district-approved double masking equivalent, which can be found here. It must have a PFE of at least 85%.

If you are purchasing masks for your student, you must give proof that it meets these standards. We ask for you to send a photo of the mask packaging that clearly states its PFE to  Dr. Harley Williams, Director of Operations. We're always happy to help families determine if the masks they've purchased are compliant.

MONTROSE PTO - MASK PURCHASE
Montrose's PTO has generously purchased an additional compliant mask for every student in addition to the two the district will supply. Each student will have 3 compliant masks without cost to families and parents. Again, the masks have arrived, so your child will receive 3 (one from our awesome PTO and two from Bexley City Schools) on Tuesday, March 23rd.

SUMMER PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES

TOGETHER In Gratitude- BEF SPRING CELEBRATION
We are excited to announce that the Bexley Education Foundation will host a virtual “gratitude event” this spring to thank and recognize school community members who put Bexley students at the heart of their efforts over the past pandemic year. TOGETHER in Gratitude, an online event, will premiere on Facebook and YouTube on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 7 p.m. Hosted by Bexley alumna and WBNS 10TV Reporter, Molly Brewer, the program will shine a spotlight on the many ways that our school community has come together to keep students connected, engaged, cared for and safe through hard work, creativity, innovation, and outreach. The program will also recognize the 2021 Glick Family Bexley Educator of the Year. You can get involved with TOGETHER in Gratitude. Visit https://bexleyeducationfoundation.org/time-come-together/ to read how you can submit a "thank you note" and about sponsorship opportunities.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION FOR 2021-2022
Kindergarten registration for fall 2021 opened on February 16; additional information is posted on our website. Please pass this information along to Bexley families who may need it. Thank you!

QUARANTINE REMINDER
Please continue to notify our school if your child is quarantined. Your child’s school counselor will be in touch to support your child's access to learning. If exposed to a positive case of COVID-19, and the student/staff member doesn't develop COVID-19 symptoms during their quarantine, they can end their quarantine after 10 days. Close contact is considered being within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes or more.
