Poetry Out Loud

Poetry Out Loud is a national contest that begins at the school level.  Contestants memorize two poems for the BHS competition, which will take place in late January 2019.  Participants are judged on six criteria: Physical Presence, Voice & Articulation, Dramatic Appropriateness, Evidence of Understanding, Overall Performance, and Accuracy.  All the rules and the poems can be found at www.poetryoutloud.org. The BHS school champion will memorize a third poem for the State Championship, which takes place on March 8.
The State Champion advances to Nationals in D.C., April 30-May 1. 
Prizes at the National level are
  • First Place = $20,000
  • Second Place = $10,000
  • Third Place = $5,000
  • Top 10 earn = $1,000
All State Champs receive an all-expenses paid trip to D.C. for themselves and a chaperone.
Deadline to choose your first poem and sign up is December 20, 2018. Please choose your second poem during Winter Break.
