Curriculum

Overview

Bexley City Schools bases its curriculum on the Ohio Learning Standards.  Resources are reviewed using a cyclical process that ensures alignment with state learning standards and tailored to the needs of Bexley students.  Teachers may supplement adopted resources with other materials that further support the individual strengths and needs of their unique learners.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Curriculum Audit

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure Bexley City Schools is an inclusive district, a team is beginning a culturally-responsive curriculum audit of our English Language Arts (ELA) Curriculum for grades 6-12.  This is a continuation of our curriculum review cycle established by Board policy, and the review of ELA is just the first to include this component in the process.  A multi-stakeholder group will review a sampling of curriculum materials used in our 6-12 ELA classes to ensure they are representative of diverse groups and perspectives and promote teaching practices rooted in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Small working groups will collaborate now through April to review assigned samples with a core team consolidating findings and making recommendations for next steps.  To review the work of this team and provide input, please click here.

Informational Videos

We are developing a series of short videos to provide information about aspects of our curriculum.  The first in the series is designed to share how we teach foundational literacy skills in grades K through 3.  It includes a glimpse at how these skills are taught and tips for families to reinforce these skills at home.  You can take a look here.
